It's My Birthday

It's my birthday and happy I am to be contented, well and free from pain. I'm thankful for all the family and friends who have wished me a happy birthday. I'm thankful for the beautiful changing leaves outside my home office window. I'm thankful for my many blessings and another year to enjoy them.

Growing up we always had a fire in the fireplace by the time my birthday rolled around. It always seemed like a magical time of year. Mom always remembered our birthdays so everyone in the house would automatically know when one of our birthdays rolled around. When I became an adult, I would fret if people didn't remember my birthday and something would always put a damper on the day.

Then one birthday, I had a light bulb moment and I realized I could make my birthday happy by myself. My husband was usually working so I would go out and have a manicure, get my hair done, treat myself to a good lunch and maybe go to a movie. This got to be a habit every year and I never noticed who remembered and who didn't. I was too busy looking forward to my day.

Things are always changing but I have learned that you can physically or emotionally hold too tightly to something and that it's best to let it go. If you can do this, your circumstances will change or something better will take its place. I don't have the opportunity to take a day off all to myself at present but I have the company of my retired husband and he always has something planned for my birthday. We are living life to the fullest and enjoying ourselves
to the fullest.

If you are blaming others for your woes, you are looking in the wrong direction. Other people cannot make you happy - you are in charge of that department. If you are looking to change things, you may have to change yourself. And there could be no better time than today.
